Building Capacity for Tomorrow

If asked who wants to go to Dubai or any beautiful place of your choice for a 5-day fun-filled beautiful vacation, we would all raise our hands, or maybe the majority of us. But if asked that the trip will happen tomorrow and you need to prepare $20,000 for all the activities per person will the majority still raise their hands, hmmm not so sure.

Now, why is this case, does this mean the majority who don’t have the funds to go do not envision life any better, or will never amount to living a certain luxurious life? The answer is they have not yet built the capacity to travel to that place and not that they are cashless people who can't afford the luxury highlighted.

How can one then build capacity? By building a long-term mindset. Here is my definition of a long-term mindset, the ability to build out something for a long period of time, to execute an opportunity/challenge with ease.

Jesus is my favorite inspirational person I look up to, his story and impact defy the odds of what true success looks like, the type of success that is result-oriented, impactful, relentless, and filled with wisdom, just to name a few.

Jesus achieved so much in his life and ministry, a number of feats we all aspire to achieve, but the aspect we most missed is the period it took for him to build the capacity to do all the amazing things he did. The Bible says Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his public ministry. Jesus was known as the son of Joseph. Joseph was the son of Heli. Luke 3:23 NLT

The question we need to ask ourselves is why didn’t Jesus start his ministry at 20 or 14 years old, that’s a mystery we will leave for God to justify, we not gonna question that Lol. But my answer again comes from scripture, the Bible says When Jesus’ parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee. There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him. Luke 2:39‭-‬40 NLT

This is a period when Jesus was still a baby and the Bible goes on to say that he grew up healthy and strong, he was filled with wisdom.

Another chapter goes on to say; Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people. Luke 2:52 NLT

This is the period when he is 12 years old and goes to the temple and his answering the Jewish leader's questions.

Now here is my favorite, Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. Luke 2:46‭-‬47 NLT

Did he amaze them because he was the Son of God? No, he amazed them because before he turned 12, the Bible says and he was filled with wisdom meaning he had built enough capacity to amaze everyone around him at that period.

And that’s why the capacity you build today will be important for the opportunities/challenges you face tomorrow.

Now building capacity can also be defined as sacrificing one outcome today for another better tomorrow. What are you doing today to shape tomorrow?

As a workout enthusiast, I have come to learn something about people who compete in workout competitions. It takes years of practice, intense training, and being disciplined with diet programs just to mention a few. Imagine a Mr. Olympic competition aspirant who only worked out for 2 weeks signing up for the competition against a competition that has put in excessive work amounting to 3–4 years. Would definitely lose.

Some processes are necessary for growth you can not take shortcuts, or cut corners.

Just as 1+1=2, so is effective saving and investments amount to wealth, working out and eating well amounts to good health, and praying and reading the Bible leads to spiritual growth.

I will leave this here, “The outcomes we aim to achieve tomorrow will easily be attainable if we fall in love and fully commit to the process today.
